*Specific courses required for Social Work major and distributive minor

This recommended plan meets general education requirements for a BS degree and all requirements for the social work major with a built in distributive social science minor. Students who wish to have a BA degree may utilize elective hours to obtain the required foreign language credit.

Requirements for Departmental Minors:

Sociology Minor (non Social Work majors only)

Students wishing to minor in Sociology are required to take:

Sociology 1123 (Intro. to Sociology), 2103 (The Family), and Social Work 3113 (Race & Ethnic Groups)

In addition to these required courses, students minoring in Sociology may choose from the following:

Three additional courses in Sociology and/or Social Work 2313 (Social Welfare Policy & Services I), 3313 (Child Welfare), and 3333 (Juvenile Justice).

Transfer students wishing to minor in Sociology may request that transfer credit in Sociology courses other than those listed above be applied toward required hours in the minor.

Social Welfare Minor (non Social Work majors only)

Students wishing to minor in Social Welfare are required to take:

Social Work 1103 (Intro. to Social Work), 2313 (Social Welfare Policy & Services I), 3223 (Social Work with the Aging), and 3313 (Child Welfare).

In addition to these required courses, students with a minor in Social Welfare selects six additional hours from the following:

Social Work 2353 (Effec ts of Disability), 3113 (Race & Ethnic Groups), 3333 (Juvenile Justice), 401V (Independent Readings and Research), or Psychology 3513 (Drugs and Behavior).

Transfer credit for courses in Social Welfare or Social Work will be evaluated for credit toward the minor, in line with CSWE guidelines, depending upon the level and content of the course and accredited status of the Program from which the course is being transferred.
